The Metro Stations

There is something that is called the Metro.  you gotta know the Metro because it's some sort of train. It's like the subway. You know the subway? In New York?  Well this is a Metro.  We use it a lot of times to get to places. It is underground. There are REALLY long escalators because it has to get under the NEVA. The Neva is a big river.  Some Metro stations are fancy. Some aren't. Some has doors, some don't.  I will show you a picture of the Metro Map.

I'm writing this in the order of my favorite lines because I just like to do that:  There is the Red Line - it's my favorite because it's very fancy.  It's always a different design at each station.  Then the Purple Line - it's my second favorite because, it's like the Red line except it's littler fancy but way more fancy at the escalators.  Then it's the Orange Line - it's my third favorite because it is very modern and there are lights all over it.  Then it's the Green Line - it's my fourth favorite because you can see doors but you can't see the train.  But there's another metal door that opens first.  Then it's the Blue Line. It's ALWAYS crowded, especially it's the special time of the day were everybody leaves their jobs. The other times, it's STILL crowded.  We live on the Blue Line which is very sad for me.  Our stop is called Gorkovskaya. I like that stop because when you step out of it, you are just in a big huge park and our home is really close to it.  We have a joke that our stop looks like a UFO.  Or a space ship.
this is how deep the metros are! i bet you cant see the top!
I like the Metro's because they are very fast and it's kind of weird because when they show on the map a long time its really short! those circles on the map are stops when it shows a long time between the circles it's a short time. so when you go to a short place you gotta prepare for a LONG time!
This is Top Secret!  I think that when I'm going for the long time, I actually think it's like a year.
Gorkovskaya. Doesn't it look like a spaceship or UFO??
This is what the red line looks like. but there are many kinds of stations
Its different from getting around in Minneapolis or all the other countries because there are Marshutkas.  In Minneapolis we use a car. but in Russia we don't have a car. Marshutkas .are like buses but they have numbers so you know which one you wanna take.  Do you think you know enough about Metro? No you don't!  I've been studying the Metro here a lot. And I mean a LOT.  I've been examining them and I know almost everything about the Metros.  We haven't gone to a lot of stops. I wish we lived on the Red Line so we could see all of it. I love the Red Line because a heart is Red and the line is Red. Ha ha isn't that a funny joke?  Thanks for reading my blog!  I'm sorry that most of the pictures have Sasha in them.  I hope I'll have comments and followers on this post!  I have no idea what's going to be next on my next post.  Nothing I'm thinking about yet.  Please send me your questions.  I'll try to answer them. Hope you like the video of me at the top! Bye bye!

  1. I think the metro is Russia is much nicer than the subway in NYC- I remember taking the metro in Moscow and thinking how beautiful it was-

  2. I was looking at your video and I started getting pretty worried when the train was coming because it was so noisy and I thought you were too close to it, even though you were standing behind the yellow line. I was glad when your mother told you stand back. I was able, finally, to breathe easily, and realize, Hey, that's the blue line. It's not as nice as the red or orange or even the green line, but it does have the coolest looking station--and it really does look just like a spaceship.

I actually know a lot about those trains after reading your blog. My favorite part is thinking about the Metro traveling under the Neva. Thanks Daniel!

  4. Hi, Daniel, that was a GREAT post about the Metro! Here are some questions:
    (1) I was surprised that the beautiful map that you posted has the metro stop names English letters and not Russian letters. Did you have to find that map somewhere special, or is it pretty easy to find things in English in Russia? I am curious if I go to Russia and can't read Russian, will I be able to easily find my way around.
    (2) How far is the very farthest stop away from your own home that you gone to on the Metro, and what was the name of that stop?
    (3) I love seeing how LOOOOONG that escalator is! That may be longer than any of the escalators in New York City. Do you know how long it is?
Keep up the great blogging! :-)

  5. I had no idea that St. Petersburg had a subway like NYC. Thanks for teaching me all about it. I think the trains are newer and cooler than the ones in NYC. But where are all the posters and advertisements? Keep having fun in Russia and sharing your adventures. I love it!

  6. Hi Daniel,

I loved your post about the Metro. I've been on the metro in Paris but I've never been to Russia, so therefore I've never been on a Metro in Russia. My family came from Russia but that was in 1898 before there was a Metro. They probably never could even imagine what a Metro would be in those days. Anyway I want to know what your favorite artwork is in the metro and if you can describe it please. I am so happy to hear from you. You brighten my day with your fun information. I agree with Lauran...I want to know if I could get around in Russia if I don't read cyrillic. Love you Livia and Bill

  7. Daniel,
I really like being your secretary and typing in your blog thoughts. In return, and in lieu of payment, would you consider going to sleep before 11:30 some nights? Thanks. Keep writing. I really like that Sasha is in your photos. Could you write a post about the architecture next?
    love you.

  8. Awesome blog Daniel!

If I were in Russia I'd probably like the red line too. Anything "fancy" is a good thing in my book.

  9. Daniel,
I tried to post a comment here earlier and I messed up. So I will try to remember what I wrote...
I was really excited to read about the metro. I was wondering if you've ever been in the first car or the last car, and looked out the window at the tracks. I love to do that, and I wonder if you've ever done it. If so, what did you think? What did it look like?
Thanks for writing about your trip.
    Love uncle David
